Equipment Manager in Athletics - HigherEdJobs

The Equipment Manager position is classified in the AFSCME bargaining unit (Stock Clerk 2). This employee will perform the duties of Equipment Manager for the department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Cheyney University. The incumbent will report to the Director of Athletics and will service all sports and activities including Basketball, Bowling, Cheerleading, Football, Tennis, Track and Field, Volleyball and Wrestling.

Duties Include:

  • To receive and record all new equipment. Inspect for quantity and quality. Check invoices for accuracy. Sort and place equipment on shelves/ in bins for efficient storing and arrange storage space.
  • Keep an up-to-date inventory of all items received using equipment management system software and other methods. Notify Athletics Business Manager of receipt of or discrepancies with orders.
  • Distribute equipment to sport in season. Give out equipment to athletes depending on the sport season and keep a journal of all items given to each athlete for practice.
  • Check equipment after practice. Replace, repair, exchange or recondition equipment and apparel for athletes as needed. Also launder and clean equipment on daily basis.
  • Issue equipment out day before game and during game. Be on hand at home or away games to replace and repair all equipment if damaged.
  • Collect all game uniforms and equipment used that day. Follow up on any unreturned uniforms and equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment such as shoes, uniforms, balls, basketball rims, track and volleyball equipment. Oversee the discarding, selling or reassignments of uniforms and equipment.
  • Mark all equipment before issuing, maintaining records and receipts of items and issuance of supplies. Periodically checking and updating inventory.
  • Check with coaches on needs as to number of balls, towels, uniforms. Assign lockers to athletes. Keep equipment room clean and in order.
  • Submit written yearly inventories for all sports to Athletic Director at the completion of each sport in season, conferring on replacement and purchasing of needed equipment for next season.
  • Marking/Lining of football field and practice fields for intercollegiate contests and practice. Conduct daily tours (walk-through) of athletic related buildings and facilities to monitor needed repair.
  • Assemble and disassemble gymnasium before and after athletic contest. This includes but is not limited to: PA systems, lining of fields, scoreboard controls, portable communications systems, set-up and break down of gymnasium for volleyball and basketball games. Coordinate work-orders relevant to this assignment.
  • Travel with football team to make repairs and maintenance of equipment and uniforms. Assist coaches in game preparation of equipment and storage. This includes summer camp facilities set up.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director.
Education, Training and/or Experience:
High school diploma (or equivalent diploma) and one year of experience in stockroom or warehouse or clerical work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Knowledge of NCAA rules as it relates to equipment disbursement
