Cruise Ship Review ? Celebrity Eclipse

I am writing this review while on my return flight to the U.S., after he just in the last 2 weeks (14 nights) aboard the Celebrity Eclipse. Introduced in April 2010, he joined the family of award-winning Eclipse Celebrity "Solstice Class" ships, which currently includes the Celebrity Solstice, the Equinox, and in 2011 the silhouette. So, although I'll try to keep total objectivity, I must admit that I went with Eclipse very high expectations.Fortunately, only a few exceptions (as defined below), I was not disappointed.

"S" hardware "

If one of the physical properties of a cruise ship (for example, the layout and appearance), professionals often refer to the ship "hardware". So let's start there.

At 122 000 tons (the largest fleet of Celebrity), the Eclipse has surprisingly agile and, with a total capacity of 2,850 passengers (double occupancy), the ship neverovercrowded. To be honest, my first impression is that the interior a bit "easy", but as the days spent on board, I got more and more appreciated. In accordance with the position of Celebrity in the industry as a line of "premium" cruise (unlike the "mass market" or "luxury"), the overall look and "feel" of Eclipse is what I call "understated elegance" . In contrast to the "glamorous cheap" or "pretentious opulence" of some other ships I have seen the insideEclipse-seem deliberately overlooked by the designers, so that the guests (myself included) would feel comfortable while at their residence in their luxury home beach. Colors in the lobby were soft and light, while the other public areas and rooms (including club and Michael Butler) in deep shades of natural wood decorated with luxurious furniture and carpets were.

Hallways and stairs were wide enough for side-by-side passage of people and weRarely more than one or two minutes waiting for an elevator. The public toilets were always spotless and well equipped with small disposable textiles (instead of paper or hot-air dryer).

The swimming pool and solarium are spacious enough to find a comfortable chair dining has never been a problem. However, there was the jogging track (or "path" for those of us who are older than 60) right into the pool lounge area (it was a kind of "obstacle course") andnot go completely around the ship.

Perhaps the specificity of the ship "hardware" was the "Lawn Club". I must admit that a negative bias (based on the photos and descriptions I've seen) may have clouded my expectations. But after a few minutes watching the other passengers, or play croquet on the lawn in the sun, finely manicured natural, I realized that the photos of this area in the brochures and TV StarPoints could not be detected peaceful serenity. I liked it!

The Food

Since all the restaurants offer a variety of dining options, an assessment of the food is not only influenced by personal taste, but also selected items from the menu. Nowhere was this more evident than in the specialty restaurant, Murano aboard the Eclipse. My wife ordered the filet mignon, while my cousin, Mike had the veal schnitzel. Both dishes were without doubt the best of its kind that we haveever eaten ?. everywhere! On the other side of the fish (sea bass, Mediterranean) was that my cousin's girlfriend, Janet, and I ordered only the best.

More significant was the meal we had at the specialty restaurant, Tuscan Grille. Although the filet mignon was so good (in our opinion), as in Murano (although the Tuscan Grille describes itself as "a steakhouse with an Italian touch") which had all our starters on their way very well.

In the restaurant, CUISINE,We had a lot of laughs sampling a variety of unique entrees and side dishes, each described in an I-pod menu.

The large dining room, Moonlight Sonata has entered into a variety of dishes every evening from good to very good, with very few disappointments offered. We especially liked the room, select a beautiful descent was regulated by two seats to the most conventional cruise ships. And we were always able to get a table for four out of the window, as werequired.

The service

Perception A cruise ship service aboard depends as much on them, the Assistant to the cabin was served and a waiter / waitress meals. So, it is best to assess each service will be taken only as a generalization based on limited personal experiences aboard the base.

Having said this part of my review ("cover my tail", if the reader has a different experience), let alone that my wife and I 'found myself sayingService as excellent. Our flight attendants (Violeta Rodriguez and David Campbell) were the best team we have on each cruise (and we have many cruises) had. The staff was knowledgeable and professional restaurants in all restaurants. In addition, there were some nice little "touches" as once again welcome you aboard with a welcome-back drink and a "spray" spray of cold after a long day of shore excursions. However, it was one of the things I valued mostthe prudent use of public announcements. Was updated after the placement of the captain and weather every morning the sound system nearly silent the rest of the day. There were no announcements at full volume for the next round of bingo jackpot or special "occasions" in jewelry. If you were interested in these things, have time and place of all was on board activities and events much in the daily calendar that has been shown in the cab on the night before left. Having learnedread when I was in class one, I do not miss a bit annoying ads. "

Entertainment

If there is one area where my experience aboard the Celebrity Eclipse disappointed me (and my fellow passengers), it was fun. More specifically, the Broadway-style shows were in production (I've seen countless times before on other cruise ships) are best uninspired and at worst completely fair. This does not mean that individual artists do notTalent (although I have seen better). It is only to say that I find this "song and dance" proved to be "trivial", repetitive and in some ways a little place "amateurish. The exception was the last show (titled" Eclipse "), some great acrobatic performances and big sets with special effects presented. The variety shows (jugglers, magicians, comedians, etc.) were generally good.

The highly promoted shows glass blowing was, in my opinion, slow and boring. AlthoughCorning Museum of Glass by the presenters were obviously very skilled in their craft and dedicated to her work, I could not spend too enthusiastic, almost an hour to look for in a glass bowl in progress. In fact, at some point during the show, turned to me and my wife said: "What am I?". Ironically, the same show was highly recommended by one of our staff have seen on the Solstice. So do not take my word. See for yourself!

TheStaterooms

Like any other modern cruise ship Celebrity Eclipse offers a wide range of accommodations, from cabins internal low price (without windows), to luxury suites with enormous personal butler. Apparently, a guest in a suite with large dimensions would be a different experience staying in a cabin inside cabin to be so much smaller, again, I see my foreword to warn the reader that cabin is based on my specific experience (which may or maynot be used for other types of exercises on Eclipse).

My wife and I chose (as we often), a standard mid-priced cabin with a balcony, which was more than enough for us. The interior was soft and pleasant. The bedding was very comfortable and none of us had trouble falling asleep. The bathroom was a good size but the shower had not extended hand (which they had to keep your body moving a little "flushed meant all around). It was a little room "less than we did a cruise for 14 nights, but overall we were very pleased with our accommodation standard balcony cabin satisfied.

Completion

Having taken over 30 cruises in the past 15 years that we in the business, my wife and I are always looking for something special when a new cruise ship is launched. And that's exactly what we got with Celebrity Eclipse. On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being theunreachable level pass to be absolutely perfect in every way), this an overall rating of 8.5 to 9 We look forward to booking our cruise on the Celebrity new silhouette (sister ship of the Eclipse) at the start of Caribbean cruises roundtrip from Cape Liberty, New Jersey in 2011.
