Miadhu News ? Extremists exist in other religions other than Islam ...

Abdul Latheef

Former State Minister for Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said that extremists exists in other religions other than Islam too and that extremism is not only restricted to followers of Islam.

In last evening?s session of the ?Revival of the Nights of Ramadan? programme organized by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the current dean of the faculty of Islamic Studies at Villa College, Shaheem said that although Muslims are looked upon as extremists and terrorists, extremism exists in other religions too.

?Those who transgress the bounds of set in the religions exist in all religions. Extremists exist in followers of Islam too. However these fringe factions do not follow the original sources of the religion of Islam,? he said.

Shaheem said that the stereotyping and labeling all those who practice the religion as extremists and terrorists is incorrect and a false notion that is even spreading now in the Maldivian society.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Islamic Affairs, Hussein Rasheed Ahmed, who also spoke at last evening?s session, said that the western media is vehemently trying to portray Islam as an extremist religion. He also said that it is saddening that some Muslim scholars are falling prey to fringe ideologies due to their distorted understanding of the correct creed and methodology of Islam.
