WR Park and Rec Department offers multiple activities for the fall

The Wisconsin Rapids Park and Recreation Department is registering children of all ages for a variety of activities this fall.

The department will be registering children ages 3 to 7 years old for soccer. The class will be offered on Monday evenings from Sept. 10 through Oct. 8.

The purpose of this program is to emphasize fun, sportsmanship, safety, cooperation and develop basic skills. The children will play small sided games and drills. Classes are held at Witter Field.

A non-resident fee for persons living outside the city limits of Wisconsin Rapids is $15 per individual. A resident fee for those living in the city limits is $12 per individual.

The department will also be registering participants ages 4 to 6 years old for Tumble Tykes.

Classes are offered evenings on Mondays or Tuesdays throughout the fall.

The purpose of these classes is to introduce boys and girls with little or no gymnastics experience. It will increase their confidence, coordination and strength in a relaxed atmosphere. Training on gymnastics apparatus is also included. Classes are held at the Centralia Center gymnastics room.

The department also has a similar course for any child between 2 and 3 years old titled Tumble Bugs.

A variety of classes will be Monday and Tuesday evenings. Parents must participate with their child in this class.

The purpose of these classes is to introduce boys and girls to basic tumbling and gymnastics movements through creative warm-ups, jumping and tumbling. ?Classes are held at the Centralia Center gymnastics room.

Both courses are have non-resident fee for persons living outside the city limits of Wisconsin Rapids of $13 per individual. A resident fee for those living in the city limits is $10 per individual.

Any person age 11 or older is eligible to participate in the Red Cross Babysitting Certification Course, which will be offered on Oct. 12 and a different session at Nov. 9. All participants are to bring a sack lunch for the day-long course.

A non-resident fee for persons living outside the city limits of Wisconsin Rapids is $38 per individual. The resident fee is $35 per individual.

The course will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on either date and will take place at the Wisconsin Rapids City Hall in the first floor conference room.

The purpose of this program is intended for students who have the responsibilities of caring for younger children during the absence of their parents. Participants must pass skills and written tests to receive certification. Participants will receive a baby sitter?s handbook at registration and a certificate upon completion of the class.

Any child ages 7 to 13 years old is eligible to participate in the Hip Hop dance class.

Classes will be offered Monday evenings from 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. from Oct. 1 to Oct. 22 or Nov. 5 to Nov. 26.

The purpose of this program is to learn dance routines to popular pop and hip hop songs while getting a great workout with today?s hippest music. People of all different levels are welcome; no previous dance experience required ? just a desire to dance and have fun!

A non-resident fee for persons living outside the city limits of Wisconsin Rapids is $13 per individual. The resident fee is $10 per individual.

The department is also offering participants ages 2 to 6 years old to attend the Great Escape. The class will be offered from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 15.

The purpose of this program is to spend some quality time exercising with your family. Families can experience fun and fitness in the Howe Gym. Not a structured class; just a safe place to ?burn off some energy!? The Recreation Department will supply the families with various sports equipment.

A non-resident fee for persons living outside the city limits of Wisconsin Rapids is $7 per family. The resident fee is $4 per family.

Registration for all classes must be completed at the office, 444 West Grand Ave., prior to scheduled class or through the mail. Class size is limited. Forms are available on our website: parks.wirapids.org. All fees must be paid in full at the time of registration.
