More Solyndra docs to Congress (Politico)

The White House on Friday turned over 130 pages of communications on Solyndra to the House Energy and Commerce Committee, an initial peace offering to Republicans who have threatened legal recriminations if their subpoena demands weren?t met.

In total, the administration touted the release of more than 185,000 pages of documents on the bankrupt California solar company, including 100,000 pages from the Energy Department this week.

An administration official said not to expect much from the documents.

Repeating a line made several times before, the official said no contributors got inside help on the Solyndra loan guarantee. "That's the top line. That's the bottom line,? the official said. ?That's really where this should end."

The official also pushed back against Republican statements that they?ve narrowed down the subpoenas? scope.

"On the face of the subpoena that?s just not true," the official said, noting the GOP has asked for all documents related to the loan guarantee. That includes materials in early January 2009 before the start of the Obama administration, which the official said they presumed was a ?typo.?

The White House will not be sending over documents now related to the February 2011 restructuring of the loan guarantee process, saying?they will instead be shared ? for viewing only because of confidentiality concerns ? during an upcoming meeting.

While the White House feels that the House subpoenas are still too broad, it also will keep talking with the panel about delivering more materials. ?We?ll continue the accommodation process with the committee,? the administration official said. ?We?ll talk to them about what their additional interests are. ... It?s an ongoing conversation.?

Republicans this week have turned up the pressure on the White House to comply with their document demands, including the possibility of a contempt-of-Congress vote on the House floor and a request for the Justice Department to pursue criminal and civil charges against Obama's top aides if the subpoenas were ignored.
